Fairchild C-82 Packet
A twin engine and twin boomed transport aircraft designed for the USAAF and it’s successor the USAF.
History
Designed as a successor for the C-47 Skytrain and the C-46 Commando in the cargo, troop transport, parachute drop, medical evacuation and glider towing roles.
Design started in 1941 with the first flight of the prototype on 10 September 1944. Production deliveries started in January 1945 and ended in September 1948.
With a production run of only 223 built, the C-82 Packet was soon replaced by the Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar, whose development was influenced and derived from the earlier C-82 Packet.
