Cold War Bench Notes #2: Yeovil Model Show and nearly done

Welcome to another addition of my Cold War Bench Notes series. Since my first blog post in this series, some building progress has been made, and I attended the Yeovil Model show with the Taunton and District Scale Modellers (TDSM), of which I am a member.

Yeovil Model Show (October 2025)

This was our club’s 2nd outing to the Yeovil Model show, our first being the April 2025 show. I feel we put on a good display, but there is always room for improvement, which was discussed on the day.

From my Cold War builds, I took along my 1/48 Airfix Chipmunk, as well as my Airfix 1/48 Meteor FR.9. The Meteor received a few nice comments, but the Chipmunk not so much.

TDSM’s next outing is to Bugle Call on the 30th of November.

TDSM Club Build

As is tradition with TDSM, we set ourselves a Summer Club build, and this year we picked the Airfix Hawk Red Arrow starter set as a bit of fun. Well, of course, this also meant that we needed to source some smoke pods, plus adding the white underside arrows!.

So here is my attempt at adding the smoke pod (pinched from another Hawk in the stash. Plus an attempt to mask and spray the white arrow. The jet intake area has since been tidied up after this photo was taken.

Trumpeter 1/48 Supermarine Attacker – almost done!

Yes, I’ve got to the decal stage of the Attacker; luckily, there are not too many. But had to stop when it came to the roundels. The red dot is misaligned on each one, which is very frustrating.

A quick search on The Scale Model Shop website and I got myself Xtradecal set X480037 (RAF D type post war roundels). So fingers crossed I can get them on this weekend.

And a completion!

I finally got the little 1/72 ICM BTR-60P finished. It’s a very delicate little model, so I really don’t want to be handling it too much.

Lots OK alongside the Revell PT-76.
